Let The Seasons Begin

There was all this holding back
waiting for the suitcase to come
off the plane, her arm brushing
against his shirt sleeves rolled up
as if he were ready for anything
good or bad they didn't know
how it would be face-to-face
for the first time, a lot of smiling
but she could tell his mouth
wanted more and so did she
though he offered she said
she would carry her suitcase
to his minivan where he opened
the door & she climbed in as he
looked at her from across the center
console, smiling with seatbelts paused
mid-way across their chests
waiting for the other

to stop holding back.
And then she realized
this is why he had asked her
to wear a skirt. And this is why
she did.
